Xenophobic nationalism

According to I read, Charles de Gaulle defined in his day what he understood by patriotism and what he understood by nationalism. Patriotism is when the love for one's own people takes precedence over any other consideration. Nationalism is when first there is hatred towards other peoples.The tactic that Catalan separatism chose long ago is that of nationalism that seeks the elimination of the different. For many years the rulers in Catalonia have been looking for the disappearance of the other, rather than taking care of their own. The idea that underlies separatism is not to promote and protect the use of the Catalan language but to eliminate the Spanish language. They worry more that you are not what you are, that they are what they are.
